Explore the Machame Route

Day 0: Arrival in Kilimanjaro

Activities: Welcome to Kilimanjaro! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our friendly team will greet you. After checking into your comfortable hotel in Moshi, you’ll have the chance to unwind from your travels. Spend the evening discovering local culture and enjoying delicious Tanzanian cuisine.

Evening: Join us for a pre-trek briefing where you will meet your experienced guides, review the itinerary, and get tips on what to expect during your adventure. Feast on a traditional dinner and rest well for the exciting days ahead.

Day 1: Moshi to Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Distance: Approximately 11 km (6.8 miles)
Duration: 5-7 hours
Elevation Gain: 1,800m to 3,000m

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. After registering, immerse yourself in the lush montane forest, with opportunities to encounter exotic wildlife and vibrant flora. The sounds of the rainforest and the stunning scenery will accompany you as you make your way to Machame Camp.

Evening:

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Distance: Approximately 5 km (3.1 miles)
Duration: 4-6 hours

Begin the day with a hearty breakfast before setting off through the moorland, gradually ascending towards Shira Camp. This route offers breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and allows you to experience diverse ecosystems.

Evening:

Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

Distance: Approximately 10 km (6.2 miles)
Duration: 6-8 hours

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Begin your day by tackling Barranco Wall, which offers a thrilling climb with unbeatable views. Following the ascent, continue your trek to the tranquil Karanga Camp, where you'll have time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude.

Evening:

Enjoy a delectable dinner while marveling at the vistas. Get plenty of rest to prepare for the big summit day ahead.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Distance: Approximately 4 km (2.5 miles)
Duration: 3-4 hours
Elevation Gain: 4,031m to 4,673m

Today's hike to Barafu Camp is short but steep, leading you to the base camp for your summit attempt. Take this time to rest, hydrate, and savor the breathtaking views of the glaciers that surround you.

Evening:

After an early dinner, ensure that all your gear is ready for your midnight ascent. Try to get as much rest as you can in preparation for the exciting challenge ahead!

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Summit and Descent to Mweka Camp

Distance: Approximately 23 km (14.3 miles) round trip
Duration: 12-16 hours
Elevation Gain: 4,673m to 5,895m and then descent to 3,068m

Commence your trek to Uhuru Peak at midnight. The ascent is physically demanding, but reaching the summit will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Celebrate your triumph with breathtaking views and don't forget to take lots of photos!

Descent:

After enjoying your time at the summit, descend back to Barafu for a quick rest and then continue down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain. Enjoy a celebratory dinner and reflect on your achievements.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Distance: Approximately 15 km (9.3 miles)
Duration: 5-7 hours

Enjoy your final hike, following scenic paths through lush rainforests as you make your way down to Mweka Gate. Upon arrival, you'll receive a certificate of achievement commemorating your successful ascent of Kilimanjaro.

Evening:

A vehicle will transport you back to Moshi, where you can celebrate your achievement with fellow trekkers over a farewell dinner.
